About Bagdogra

Enclosed by tea gardens, Bagdogra is located in Darjeeling district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is a part of the Greater Siliguri Metropolitan Area and is 17 km way from the second largest city of West Bengal, which is Siliguri.

About Bagdogra Airport

The Bagdogra Airport is the only airport in North Bengal and is located at the western part of the Siliguri city. The airport has domestic flights to all the major metropolitan cities of India and also has limited international connectivity to Kathmandu, Paro and Bangkok.

This airport was conferred the status of a customs airport by the Government of India in the year 2002 with limited operations. This airport also has regular helicopter flights to Gangtok, which the capital of Indian state of Sikkim.

In spite of being an airport with limited operations, it is the 20th busiest airport in India and is also a civil enclave for the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Places to visit in Bagdogra

Coronation Bridge

Built in the British architectural style in 1937 (completed in 1941) over the Teesta River, this structure celebrates the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. It is located 37 km away from Bagdogra and is at the merging point of the two rivers, namely Teesta and Rangeet.

It is also known as Sevoke Bridge as there is a temple of the Hindu Goddess Sevokeshwari Kaali on the banks of River Teesta. The locals call it Baghpool, which means tiger bridge, as there are two lion statues (though bagh literally means tiger) at one entrance of the bridge.

Surya Sen Park

The park is a popular evening spot for locals and is a place for entertainment and fun which also hosts an exhibition on alternative energy sources for awareness. The bust of freedom fighter Surya Sen is installed in here. The other attractions include the evening fountains, the lighting which lights up the whole park.

It is located at Mahakal pally in Siliguri which is around 16 km from Bagdogra.


The Hare Krishna Movement or International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is in charge of the management of the temple at Bagdogra, ISKCON has temples worldwide and is a well-known Hindu religious organisation.

The temple is a popular place amongst the locals as well as the tourists visiting Siliguri. The temple has modern architecture but it retains the Hindu customs of ‘Vashtuhaara’. The temple has a number of beautiful idols of different Gods, the prime are the idols of Radha and Madhav, which is Lord Krishna with Radha. The place boasts an auditorium, a restaurant and also a guest house.

Umrao Singh Boat Club

A highly recommended tourist spot in Bagdogra, the Umrao Singh Boat Club can be a part of your perfect weekend plan. A scenic place located amidst the lush green tree plantations, can offer you a laid-back afternoon boating adventure in the lake. Both pedalled and engine fitted boats in different shapes and sizes are available there.

The Club is located at Sukna in Siluguri and is developed and maintained by the Indian Army.

The Science City
