About Lucknow

Bara Imambara

The name ‘Bara Imambara’ is a combination of two Urdu words wherein ‘Bara’ means big and ‘Imambara’ means shrine complex. This shrine was built in 1784 by the Nawab Asaf-ud-daula. It is one of the largest structures in Lucknow. The complex boasts the only Bhulbhulaiya (Labyrinth or Maze) present in India.

Hazratganj Market

The most popular shopping destination of the city, the Hazratganj Market has its establishment long back in history. It was established in by Nawab Saadat Ali Khan in 1810. It has gone through a lot of change during the previous years. The Lucknow special, ‘Chikan’ a variety of hand embroidery which is done using cut and shadow work is available here and has to be the first in the shopping list if you visit here.

Dr. Ambedkar Park

This contemporary architectural monument is a dedication to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and is spread across a whopping 107 acres of land. The red sandstone brought from Rajasthan was used to build the entire monument. A canal, various columns and the well-maintained lawns are the prime attractions of the place. It is located in Gomti Nagar, which is also considered to be one of the plushest localities in the city.

Lucknow Zoo

In order to mark the arrival of the Prince of Wales, the Lucknow Zoo was built in 1921, and is also known as Nawab Wazid Ali Shah Udyan. It is spread across a massive 71.3 acres of land and contains 97 varied species of wild animals, 348 birds, 57 reptiles, and 447 mammals. One can spot some rare and endangered species like the Royal Bengal tigers, white tigers, Hoolock gibbons, and Indian rhinoceros.

Lucknow State Museum

The Lucknow State Museum is the largest and also the oldest in the state of Uttar Pradesh. There are over 100,000 antiques which belong to the Gupta period, and a number of other manuscripts, tools and weapons, pottery and artefacts are preserved in the Museum.
