About Ranchi

About Ranchi Airport

Birsa Munda Airport which is also known as Ranchi Airport gets its name from an Indian tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda. The airport is spread over an area of 1568 acres and is the 26th busiest airport in India.

It is the primary airport serving the city and is located in Hinoo, approximately 5 km or 3.1 miles away from the city centre. The airport has a one passenger terminal and one cargo terminal.

The Airports Authority of India manages it and is into the process of further developing the airport with construction of more parking bays, aerobridges, expansion of the runway, etc.

Pahadi or Pahari Mandir

This Hindu temple is located at the top (at an altitude of 2140 feet) of central Ranchi Hill and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that the city gets its name from a local bird ‘Rinchi’ which is found in and around this temple.

Panch Gagh Falls

Ranchi Lake

The lake has its connection way back in Indian history during the British rule. Ranchi Lake was constructed by a British National Colonel Onsely in the year 1842. The prisoners helped in the construction and it was constructed in order to maintain the groundwater level of the city.

It is also known as Bara Talab, is spread over 52 acre. It is a popular tourist spot, ideal for picnics and enjoying a laid-back evening.

Birsa Zoological Park

The Birsa Zoological Park is located near Ormanjhi on the Ranchi-Patna National Highway (NH-33). The place is also known as Birsa Jaivik Udyan and it boasts a varity of wildlife which includes tigers, lions, various kinds of deer and more. The surprising element of the park is that you can adopt an animal from the park and contribute to wildlife preservation. This initiative falls under the animal adoption program.

Sun Temple
